Meet the Volunteers- Ken & Donna Bonetti
Next up in our meet the volunteer series is Ken and Donna Bonetti. They are fairly recent transplants from Colorado and have jumped right into becoming active in our community. We are grateful for their examples of volunteerism.
Ken is from the Colorado Front Range and Donna is from the San Francisco Bay area. Donna and Ken moved to North Bend from Boulder, Colorado where Ken was an academic advisor at the University of Colorado Boulder. Donna previously worked for the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). She also volunteered with a local wildland restoration group. Both were active in the Sierra Club and other area environmental organizations.
Donna and Ken relocated to Oregon because the cost of living in Colorado, particularly housing, had become very expensive, and emissions from oil and gas fracking had ruined Colorado’s air quality. Clean air, and the natural beauty of Oregon’s magnificent coastline and verdant forests provide the perfect setting for lovers of the great outdoors.
Ken and Donna have two small birds, a parrot and a parakeet. Both Ken and Donna are voracious readers. Donna is a poet, painter and gardener. Ken is a long time environmental and community activist. They both exercise regularly in their home gym room and frequently hike along local coastlines and mountain trails.
They became involved with OBAB because of the group’s emphasis on cleaning up local natural areas. They would like to see OBAB stay focused on cleaning up and helping improve area parks and open spaces because of their importance to the community, besides it is clear that local governments needs the help.
